FETHIYE - KARACAOREN ROUTE

FETHIYE - SARSALA - TOMP BAY - KARACAOREN - SKOPEA MARINA (Gocek-) - TERSANE ISLAND - FETHIYE

This flotilla sailing holiday allows time to explore the charming anchorages in the attractive pine-wooded Fethiye Gulf.

Any of the yachts based at Fethiye can join the Fethiye flotilla and explore this beautiful stretch of the Turkish coast in company. The flotilla skipper and hostess accompany the flotilla on the lead yacht and are on hand for help and advice as required. They have the latest weather forecasts and know the best anchorages for lunch stops.

With alternating one week itineraries you can choose between the Fethiye/Cold Water Bay route or the Karacaoren route, both taking in stunning bays with crystal clear waters as well as ancient sites. Those with more time may choose to combine the two routes and enjoy a two week holiday for a truly memorable experience.

The Fethiye Bay is sheltered with north-westerly winds Force 2-3 but on longer passages along the coast winds may be occasionally 5-6. These fade as the sun goes down to give a calm night on anchor in one of the numerous sheltered bays and anchorages.

Included On The Karacaoren Flotilla

  • Assistance of the flotilla lead crew throughout your holiday
  • Transit Log
  • End cleaning
  • Bed linen & towels
  • Cooking gas
  • Marina fees at home port
  • Starter pack (water, beer, soft drinks, chips, tea & coffee)
  • Fuel and any mooring fees are not included.

Karacaoren Flotilla Sailing Holidays

  • Two 1 week itineraries - Fethiye Bay route and Karacaoren route
  •  Perfect for less experienced sailors
  •  Line of sight sailing
  •  Minimal mooring fees. Most nights will be spent at anchor/restaurant jetty
  •  Runs May to October. Operates Saturday-Saturday
  •  Supermarket within the marina

Sailing Qualifications

To skipper a bareboat charter or flotilla yacht, you need to hold a practical sailing certificate equivalent to RYA Day Skipper Practical qualification or RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC). For charters in Greece, you must now have the ICC certificate. You must also be assisted by at least one competent crew member over the age of 18.

The port authorities in Greece are now insisting on one of the following practical certificates: RYA ICC (International Certificate of Competence), RYA Coastal, RYA Yachtmaster, ASA IPC (International Proficiency Certificate) or the IYT (International Yacht Training) Passport. If you hold an RYA Day Skipper or ASA104 it will no longer be accepted and you need to obtain either an ICC or IPC from the corresponding issuing body (RYA or ASA). If your RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster or ASA105/106 certificate is more than 12 years old and does not have a photo ID, then we would also strongly advise applying for an ICC or IPC. If you are a member of the RYA or ASA, you may qualify for a discount or free certificate, otherwise, you will have to pay. The approximate cost is £50. Please use this link - RYA application for the ICC or ASA application for the IPC.

For charters in Croatia, Malta and the Canaries, at least one member of the crew or the skipper will also need a VHF licence.

Level 1

Winds force 2-3 (4-11 Knots) combined with generally shorter distances. Good for beginner or intermediate sailors. Line-of-sight navigation but basic knowledge of charts and ability to plot your position required.

Level 2

Winds force 3-5 (7-21 Knots) with approximately 15-20nm per day. Intermediate experience required. Predominately line of sight navigation but an understanding of how to sail in open water.

Level 3

Winds force 4-6 (11-27 Knots) with mileage of approximately 20nm+ per day. Ideal for experienced skippers looking to venture out to new destinations. Day skipper standard but with experienced crew would be recommended.

Day 1 (Saturday) : Ece Marina Fethiye

Embark at Ece Marina in Fethiye. Get to know your boat and the flotilla leaders, then go shopping and in the evening eat in one of the pleasant local restaurants.

Day 2 (Sunday) : Sarsala (15nm)

Sarsala is one of our favourite bays in the Fethiye Bay, with a good jetty with moorings. Climb the hill for a wonderful view over the gulf.

Day 3 (Monday) : Tomb Bay (4nm)

Tomb Bay is one of the many lovely bays in the Fethiye Gulf that can only be reached by boat. On entering the bay you will see the Lycian rock tombs. Here you will experience charming Turkish hospitality in a beautiful location.

Day 4 (Tuesday) : Karacaoren (17nm)

A pleasant anchorage in a stunning location, protected by cliffs and the reef to the south. Go ashore by dinghy for dinner, where the family run restaurant is ‘vintage’ Turkey and many of the dishes are prepared in a wood-burning oven.

Day 5 (Wednesday) : Skopea Marina, Gocek (18nm)

Gocek is a small, sophisticated town with a variety of shops and restaurants.

Day 6 (Thursday) : Tersane Island (6nm)

Once a Greek populated island, the inhabitants deserted Tersane back in 1923 during the population swap between Greece and Turkey. Today, abandoned homes scatter this beautiful island as well as numerous ruins dating from Lycian and Byzantine times. A family run restaurant surrounded by nature is the setting for tonight's dinner.

Day 7 (Friday) : Fethiye (14nm)

Return to Fethiye. In the evening enjoy dinner in a nice restaurant in the bazaar. Clients on the two week flotilla will be given advice on places to visit during their free sailing days until they reunite with the flotilla.

Day 8 (Saturday) : Ece Marina Fethiye

Disembark at Fethiye and take a transfer back to the airport.

Routes may vary due to weather conditions & other factors.
