Bodrum Castle (Bodrum Kalesi), built from 1402 by the Knights Hospitaller using stone salvaged from the ruined Mausoleum of Halicarnassus — one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — dominates the harbour and now houses the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, one of the world's leading collections of shipwreck finds, including the Bronze Age Uluburun wreck. The castle's gardens and Five Towers give the best vantage point over the town's twin bays.

Logistics & Technical

Milta Bodrum Marina, at the foot of the castle, berths around 450 yachts and offers fuel, technical service and 24-hour security; Yalıkavak Marina to the north handles most of the larger superyacht traffic. Chandlery and provisioning are covered by long-established local suppliers. Customs and port formalities for Bodrum are handled at the harbour master's office by the castle.

Practical Info

Currency is the Turkish Lira (TRY); marina restaurants and shops generally also take euros or cards. Milas–Bodrum Airport (BJV) is roughly 35km/45 minutes from the town centre. July and August afternoons regularly bring the meltemi — a steady northerly that can raise a short chop in the outer bay — so it's worth timing crossings for the morning.

⚓ Captain's Note

Round Bodrum's headland early if you can — the meltemi tends to build through the afternoon, and the anchorages on the peninsula's south side are far more comfortable before it does.
