Athens flotilla sailing holidays

Our Athens flotilla starts from Kalamaki Marina in the heart of Athens and sails among the beautiful islands of the Saronic Gulf.

Choose from a huge range of yachts in the Kiriacoulis fleet and explore the Saronic Gulf led by an experienced flotilla skipper and hostess. This flotilla sailing holiday is ideal for couples and families who have sailed in the Ionian and want a similar flotilla holiday in a different Greek location.

The Athens flotilla starts from Kalamaki marina, just 40 minutes from Athens airport. Add a few days before or after the flotilla for a city break to Athens. Once you leave the marina, it's easy sailing among the picturesque islands of Aegina, Poros, Hydra and Spetses with plenty of bays for lunchtime stops and traditional Greek harbours for overnight mooring.

This sailing area has ideal conditions with steady day breezes. The islands are each very different and allow a good day's sail between them. On this route there are many attractive harbours for overnight mooring. The skipper and hostess are on hand to give you help and advice so you get the most out of your sailing holiday.

Meet the Athens flotilla lead crew

Ross and Hanna

After leaving the Royal Marines back in early 2015 Ross pursued his sailing career to become a commercially endorsed RYA Yachtmaster (Offshore) and has recently become a cruising Instructor. He has sailed a wide variety of vessels ranging from working boats to gaff-rigged schooners and modern yachts in the Mediterranean, Northern Spain and more recently the Maldives.

Hanna started dingy sailing as a child in her hometown of Prestwick in Scotland and later became a qualified swimming instructor. In recent years she has completed her RYA Day Skipper, Powerboat 2, Personal Watercraft and SAMSA VHF radio certificates. Hanna hopes to build upon her boating experience and knowledge so is very excited to be working with us for the 2019 season.

The Saronic islands of Aegina, Poros, Hydra and Spetses and the Peloponnese coast offer smooth sailing sheltered from strong winds. The Saronic route is highly recommended for easy sailing, especially in July & August to avoid the strong meltemi winds blowing in the Cyclades.

People choose flotillas for a variety of reasons. It’s popular with those who appreciate the support of the lead crew but also with those who have sailed many times before who enjoy the sociable side of a flotilla and the local knowledge and reassurance that the lead crew provide – useful if you’re new to the cruising area. During the school holidays flotillas are particularly popular with families who enjoy an active holiday together.

One week the flotilla follows the SARONIC ROUTE. Visit the beautiful island of Aegina and Epidavros, the health resort of Ancient Athenians - the theatre is well worth a visit. Poros is a busy town quay very popular for a typical Greek night out.

The following week the flotilla follows the ARGOLIC ROUTE south of Poros. The yachts raft up in the beautiful anchorages near Port Heli, before returning via Poros The flotilla returns to Athens at the end of each week, while the 2-weekers enjoy a couple of days free sailing before meeting up for the welcome drinks party. You’ll be met at the airport and taken to your yacht, a 40-minute taxi ride straight to the marina. An excellent supermarket is within easy walking distance. Your fridge will be chilling and there’s a welcome pack on every yacht .

Kalamaki Marina is a taxi or tram ride from the centre of Athens. On your first evening, enjoy dinner in the famous Plaka area of Athens, with a view of the Acropolis, or chill out in one of the

restaurants in or near the marina.
